What a great day I have had surrounded by so much creativity and energy at the Scrapbooking From Scratch Retreat! Peta, the owner of SFS, asked me to be one of the teachers at this years retreat, and I jumped at the chance as I had heard how much fun they were! And it was true, I had an absolute ball teaching there today! The weather was HOT (over 40c degrees!) but it didn’t stop anyone from getting creative.
I taught two art journal pages and an alcohol inks techniques class. During the art journal class I talked about my love for writing AND art, while showing them one of my art journals where there’s just as much writing as there is ‘art’. It really resonated with a lot of people and they told me their own stories of how they journal.
The art journal pages we completed in class didn’t necessarily have a lot of writing on them, but there is plenty of space for them to add their own words at a later date. Here’s some of the student work from the day:
I love how they put their own spin on it and incorporate their own style into it, whether it’s different colours, perhaps a different stencil or even putting the stamps in different places than mine. I love that my work is just a springboard for them to take the idea and run with it any way they please.
Walking around the room seeing all the different pages come to life is one of the best feelings as a teacher!
Here’s a completed page by Lisa Oxley using the stamps and techniques from the class:
It was also great to catch up with Peta from SFS, Zoe from Cocoa Vanilla, Lisa Oxley, Kylie Tout from Scrapping Clearly and Fiona Paltridge. Here’s our selfie time! Always a lot of fun catching up with these beautiful ladies!
A huge thanks to Peta for inviting me to be a part of the event and to all of the ladies and gents for a fabulous day!!
